It’s a self-perpetuating cycle of feelings of emptiness that can lead to more dangerous and high risk behaviour. If it’s trauma-based, it can be retraumatizing and keeps PTSD active and hinders healing, especially if you have never had a healthy model of relationships and are pursuing lite versions of past abusers, hoping to “correct” the past with a nicer/less damaging version “of your choice”…

Until you you’re in a better mental state and have a good relationship with your own mind and body and a better idea of what a good relationship is actually like, following such impulses can only do a lot of damage.
